STATE TESTING TIP OF THE DAY 4. Offer positive reinforcement A little encouragement can go a long way in helping students walk into testing days feeling confident—which, in turn, can have a huge effect on their performance. Praise your child for the work that he or she does to prepare for testing, and share in his or her excitement when he or she has success with a new concept or skill. Similarly, when he or she is struggling with a topic, point out the progress that he or she has made and encourage him or her to continue working. Having already experienced success with the material that he or she will be tested on will help your child avoid test anxiety and perform to the best of his or her ability on testing day. #BETTERTOGETHER

STATE TESTING TIP OF THE DAY 3. Talk to your child about test taking The purpose and goals of testing are not always obvious, even to the students who take them. Especially with new test-takers, it’s easy to be intimidated by testing or simply not feel motivated to put forth a lot of effort. Have open, ongoing conversations with your child to explain the benefits of testing, focusing on how it helps them, their teacher, their school, and other educators understand their strengths and weaknesses and figure out the most effective ways to teach. You can also use this opportunity to ask your students how they feel about testing, and offer reassurance or perspective if they have any anxiety around exams.

STATE TESTING TIP OF THE DAY 2. Communicate with teachers Regular communication with your child’s instructor can help you gain insight into his or her progress. Make a point of meeting or talking with your child’s teacher on an ongoing basis to understand what your child is working on, what he or she will be tested on, and the areas that he or she is excelling and struggling in. Your child’s teacher is also a great resource for test-preparation practice or strategies you can use with your child at home. Plus, they can keep you up to date on group study sessions or other opportunities for additional review that your child may benefit from.

Frontier 5th graders practiced their math skills for mean, median, mode and graphing while also enjoying some beautiful spring weather. Students took turns jumping, measuring, recording, and graphing the jumps. What a fun way to learn! #BetterTogether

STATE TESTING TIP OF THE DAY: 1. Prioritize attendance and homework Tests are ultimately intended to be a measure of how well students have learned the material being taught in class. With that in mind, what is the best (and most straightforward) piece of test-prep advice for caregivers is to do what you can to ensure that your child is fully engaged with his or her classwork throughout the year. Set aside dedicated homework time each night to make sure that your child is completing their assignments consistently throughout the year. It’s also a good idea to periodically reflect on your family routine, and make sure you and your student are keeping a schedule that gets them to class on time every day. If your student is absent for a day, or has to miss a class period, check in with them to make sure they can make up what they missed. #BETTERTOGETHER #ATTENDANCEMATTERS

Reminder: PreK enrollment will be this Wednesday, April 6th from 3:30 to 5:30. Please bring the child’s social security card, proof of residence, birth certificate, updated shot records, and CDIB card if applicable. Children must turn four by Sept 1st to be eligible to enroll. We celebrated our March Mustang winners today! We would like to send a special congratulations to Xavier Harjo for being selected as our March student of the month. We would also like to recognize Jace, Arias, and Makalli for raising the most money for our upcoming Mustang Miles Track day. Thank you all for your support!

Congratulations to all of our track athletes for their performance at the Chisholm 6th-9th grade meet on Thursday. It was incredibly cold and windy, but they worked hard and competed well. #BetterTogether #FrontierPride

Dear Frontier school family: This letter is to provide you with accurate information about an event that occurred on the high school campus yesterday. Please know that all students and staff are safe and were not in danger. Our district occasionally has specially trained dogs and their handlers on campus to ensure the school is free of drugs, tobacco, and weapons. During a routine search with the dog yesterday, we discovered a firearm in a student vehicle. Administrators immediately contacted representatives of the Noble County Sheriff’s Department, who conducted a thorough investigation and discovered the weapon was accidentally left in the vehicle by a parent after its legal use. The situation was an oversight and not a threat to the school. Because this is a private student issue, I am unable to share additional information. Nothing is more important to Frontier Public Schools than the safety of our students and staff, and we are glad this incident did not place any member of our school family in danger. We ask families to please remember that no weapons – even look-alike weapons – are allowed on the school campus. Failure to follow this rule can result in significant legal and/or administrative consequences. It is never easy to share concerning news about school events; however, I want you to know I will always communicate openly and transparently with our school family. The Lady Mustangs battled wind, freezing temperatures and over an hour of sleet and snow yesterday to edge out Manford in the Frontier Invitational at Pawnee Golf Course. Along with the 1st place team trophy they also brought home 2 of the 5 individual medals with Larissa Jefferson in 3rd place and BJ Childs in 4th. Larissa also won the long drive contest on hole 9 by over 75 yards.
